The EPA is an independent regulatory agency that operates as a part of the executive branch of the government. The essential duty of the EPA is to oversee and regulate human and environmental health concerns. The main way the EPA does this is through regulations. The EPA is responsible for accessing the need for regulations in everything from industrial manufacturing to hunting in order to anticipate the effects on the environment and citizens alike. They are given wide discretion when it comes to setting regulations because of the unique and special considerations that need to be taken. They essentially act as the police for nature, making sure no one is doing anything too destructive to the environment or to American civilians.
