Trash islands, such as the huge plastic garbage pit floating in the Pacific Ocean, may have the possibility to ravage the marine wildlife. Animals who are intending to consume plankton instead may swallow a large ratio of plastic particles. Becoming full on inedible bits and not receiving nutrients can ultimately lead to death. The Pacific trash island, reportedly the size of Texas, may have the capability to completely change the ocean environment in a region. Yet, oceanographers and other scientists are still in-process of figuring out how to locate the miniscule pieces of plastic and what exactly all the effects on ocean wildlife.
