How does swelling glass absorb carbon?

Good question Immanuel7.  Swelling glass, or Obsorb, as it is called by the company that made it, is capable of absorbing hydro-carbons and some classes of solvents.  The material is capable of bonding with these chemicals, but it also hydrophobic, which means it does not bond with water.  This means that swelling glass is a great application for water decontamination.

    Hope this helps!
