How does a spaceship land on mars?

Since the other post covered the rovers to Mars, I will talk about a possible manned mission to Mars. I can speculate that landing on the surface of Mars will be similar to landing on the moon, with considerable changes in the math regarding gravity and telemetry. After about 8 months of space travel, the space ship hub will begin to orbit the planet, and a smaller capsule will be released toward the surface of the planet. Using mathematical telemetry, the capsule would fall towards the surface and use thruster rockets to pad it’s landing upon the planet surface.
