How does so much fishing line get left in lakes?

Fishing line can get left in the lake in a number of ways. Fishermen can get into battles with hooked fish and in the push and pull, the line may get snapped because it isn’t strong enough. Fisherman may also get hooked on a rock or some other object underwater and may need to cut his or her line because they can’t get free of it. Fisherman might also just lose line off of a dock or the side of the boat. It’s a shame because there’s nothing in place to clean this lost line or make anyone responsible for it.
