How does the salt get in the ocean?

Salt is a naturally occuring mineral found throughout the world. It is very common in rocks and soil. Rivers & streams that run into the ocean cause erosion of the land around them. Since that land can also have salt inside it, the salt is then brought downriver as well. At this point, salt is in the ocean. Then water evaporates to create clouds that will eventually rain down on the land to add water to the rivers, streams and other forms of runoff. The salt cannot evaporate so it stays in the oceans to keep the water so salty. This process is called the water cycle.
