A new study released by the EPA suggests the U.S. could reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions by over 350 metric tons annually by reducing the amount of waste we produce. Reducing waste goes hand in hand with reusing and recycling materials. When these strategies are in place, less new materials need to be produced, which drastically reduces the amount of energy needed to mine, transport, and produce a good- therefore vastly reducing carbon emissions.
