Sperm cells must be able to reach the eggs for fertilization to take place. These can be found in the pollen grains of a flowering plant. After the pollen is transported from the anthers to the stigmas, a tube grows from the pollen grain through the style of the ovary. There are ovules containing an egg in the ovary. Sperm cells leave the pollen grain by moving down the pollen tube into the ovule. As the sperm cell fuses to an egg in the ovule, fertilization occurs.
