A passive house functions by utilizing the least possible amount of non-renewable energy sources. Rather than using gas for heat or coolants for air conditioning, passive houses absorb solar energy for heat. For cooling, they use specific models designed to take in air from outside and use the interior of the structure to make it colder. Compared to active houses, passive houses are a lot more cost-effective, as they function solely based on nature, and thus malfunction less.
First and foremost a Passive House is insulated and made airtight to the highest standards, that is for all segments such as the slab, walls, windows, doors and roof.
