Palynology is the study of fossil palynomorphs including pollen, spores and many others. Observing the variations and proliferation of these fossil palynomorphs can give scientists an idea as to what kind of vegetation was present in a given area at the time to which they are dated. This can also provide valuable insight on the climates during those periods as well as human behaviors and movements.
Palynologists are also able to reconstruct paleoenvironments, there different layers over a large area, by digging for and finding similar pollen spores in sedimentary rocks. Matching the samples in various locations aid in the geologic history comprehension of the area. Although this data may not be at first conclusive, paleoclimates and paleoenvironments can be determined in this way.
