How does over-fishing affect the marine food chain?

Overfishing has two major affects on the food chain, depending on what fishes are being exploited. If smaller, bait fish like herring or mullet are over fished, this will cause a collapse from the bottom, in which larger, predatory fish, like tuna and cod will not be able to survive. On the contrary, if these predatory fish had been over fished, the smaller ones would thrive, consuming to much of their own food source. This would then cause their numbers to collapse because of food scarcity. Its a lose lose situation.
