How does over farming effect the environment?

The main offset of overfarming is that it draws all the nutrients out of the soil. The consistent presence of plants drawing those nutrients out does not allow them to replenish for future crops. What a lot of farmers have done in the past is plant ground cover or something similar over the soil because that allows the soil to replenish its nutrient supply. Also, they fertilize the ground with manure or fertilizer (manure is better as it is more natural).
