How does our government help us use less energy?

The three biggest efforts governments can do is getting the word out, though campaigns; enforcing standards on companies and investing in research and development of technologies that saves energy, like smart grids.

The first pretty straight forward, getting people informed about the problem, making them pay more attention to their consumption can greatly improve energy savings.

Environmental protection laws as well as energy efficiency laws are introduced to make companies more environmentally friendly and help end users use less energy.

Investing money in technologies also does not directly appeal to the population for help, it does however make people use less energy without actively participating.
