Neosporin is a topical antibiotic. It essentially helps healing in two ways:
1) it kills bacteria to avoid infections and
2) keeps the wound moist which facilitates the tissue coming back together
These effects help the wound both to heal faster and scar less.
Neosporin contains a combination of antibiotics that kill bacteria that causes infections. It is most often found in a gel form that can be applied topically to burns, minor cuts, and other wounds. It also comes in an irrigation solution that is used in patients with catheters to prevent bladder infections.
