How does lifecycle software work?

Lifecycle software is a term that is used to refer to the time between when the idea for software is created, all the way until it is no longer available for use.  This includes the programs research, development, maintenance, etc.  This process is only able to work because of the effort of many people working together on each of their specific jobs.  Hope this is what you were thinking!  I have included a couple links below for further reading, or, feel free to ask another question about lifecycle software if you want!
