How does the industry in Detroit effect local waterways?

in 2001 33 percent of Detroit’s largest businesses violated the Clean Water Act, by dumping chemicals and dirty water into the sewage system and into natural freshwater sources. Detroit is known for it’s automobile plants, which incur a lot of hazardous waste as the result of manufacturing a car. Even if these materials and chemicals are disposed of and stored properly some if leaks into the ground water and works it’s way into larger bodies of water. The city is run down and low on money, resulting in poor sewage systems, with limited clean water.
