How does increase in carbon levels lead to an increase in temperatures?

Carbon is a greenhouse gas. Greenhouse gases in our atmosphere absorb light that is reflected off the Earth’s surface and keep it in the atmosphere. Since this energy is not allowed to escape, it heats up the atmosphere. The more greenhouse gases there are, the less reflected sunlight escapes our atmosphere.
