In the European Union, many of the fish that are eaten come from illegally caught fish. The way they get into the market is that fishing boats go to Las Palmas in the Canery island where their catch is examined. There are so few inspectors in comparison to how many fish go through the port, that the illegal operations are rarely caught. They get cleared there and head to Europe where the illegal fish is bought alongside legal catches and no one knows the difference.
