How does hurricane research work?

Hurricanes can be predicted fairly well a week in advance nowadays because scientists can use satellite images and Doppler radar. They use elementary statistics to predict wind speeds and their intensity. They also use models to predict the path of hurricants. Basically, what I’m trying to say is that most of the research has been done in the past and we have ways of predicting hurricanes now. There’s not as much research being done, just predictions.
