How does groundwater get polluted?

Groundwater pollution is caused by contaminants seeping through layers soil and into the lower groundwater layers where the water table meets the subsurface.  Agriculture, industrial activity, municipal activities, and private actions all contribute to the creation of pollutants.  The pollutants are transmitted to the earth by various means, such as: Air pollution, chemical spills, industrial waste disposal, fertilizer runoff, pesticide runoff, cleaners, detergents, etc..

I am a firm believer in the power of the diagram.
