Global warming has a unique effect on sea turtles, as the gender of a baby turtle is determined by the temperature at which the egg incubates. Females are born when the eggs reach higher temperatures (88.6 degrees F), and as much as many of us would like to believe that the world would be better run by women, this doesn’t quite work in the natural world! Additionally, stronger coastal storms and rising sea level due to melting glaciers will have a severe effect on sea turtle nesting sites.
