How does fishing threaten species other than the fish being caught?

Fishing, especially overfishing, can seriously disrupt natural habitats.  Heavy fishing can create a lot of pollution in an area, but the major problem is disrupting the natural food webs.  Often prey species such as sardines are overfished, creating a food shortage for animals that eat them.  In other habitats, predator fish may be depleted such as salmon, causing there to be an abundance of prey fish which may lead to overconsumption of other organisms.  Food webs are in delicate balance that can be easily thrown off.
