The textile industry is a great polluter, using some 2000 different chemicals in the process, including dyes, transfer agents and chemical fertilizers to grow the fibers, which are released into the air. The industry also uses a huge amount of water in the processes. The chemicals are also mixed with the water and then the waste is released into the environment. Also, many fabrics are not biodegradable and will fill up landfills if thrown out.
