How does ecology relate to the environment?

Ecology is essentially the study of environments, and all that might be contained within.  If an Ecologist can study an ecosystem, he or she can see what might be harming it, or what could harm it in the future (be it human-made harm or otherwise) and repair the environment.  It’s their life.

Ecology seeks to understand how organisms relate to each other in an ecosystem. To an ecologist, environment is conceived as a community of organisms whose life processes are dependent on one another. Ecologists seeks to understand life forms from the perspectives of genetics, biology, and interactive behavior. The field has been extended to encompass understanding of human behavior as well.
