How does eating meat cause greenhouse gas emissions?

Eating meat requires energy to get the meat to your table, which inevitably causes greenhouse emissions.  Not only do cows release methane, but the water and grain needed to feed the livestock requires energy.  And then the butchering and transporting the meat is another process that requires energy.  An FAO report announced that 14 – 22% of greenhouse gas emissions were due to meat production.
