For starters, recycling keeps some percentage of trash out of our landfills and away from any natural habitats.  The materials we recycle can’t be ingested by animals.

Recycling also cuts down on the quantity of fresh resources that we consume and on the energy emissions we create during the manufacturing processes of many new goods.  Keeping emissions down is good for the general health of all living species, and preserving resources means that we can continue to live successfully as a species for a longer period of time.
