The chlorophyll in plant thykaloid cells triggers photosynthesis by reacting with red light and blue light. Therefore, plants grow best with light from the red and blue range of the spectrum. Plants cannot grow at all if exposed only to green light. Chlorophyl reflects (rather than absorbs) green light, which is what gives plants their color.
