In a variety of ways, the biggest of which is deforestation. Clearing away rainforest for large-scale coffee production contributes to habitat and consequently biodiversity loss. The use of chemicals and pesticides to aid the grow of coffee plants contaminates the water and soil of the area, which is harmful to other animals and plants. Then there’s the manufacturing and processing of the cocoa beans themselves, which produces pollution and sewage.
