How does coal form?

  1. 0 Votes

Decaying organic material accumulates to form what is called peat. Over time, this is covered with layers of sediment. After it goes through various types of pressure and heat, coal is formed. However, due to the differences in intensity of heat, different types of coal are formed. (Lignite, bituminous coal, subbituminous, and anthracite)
