Because the Dominican Republic is an island, its food influences are similar to Puerto Rico, Cuba, and even Hawaii. The dishes are full of native fruits, vegetables, and grasses, all of which are common of an island climate like the Dominican Republic. Some of these common ingredients include plantains, taro, cassava, auyama, and chayote.
