The cause of the seasons changing is a combination of the distance of the Earth from the sun and the tilt of the Earth’s axis affecting the angle and amount of light which reaches the different hemispheres of the Earth. This lowers the temperature in winter. Plants react to the change in temperature and the diminished light and either die or go dormant. Animals hibernate or migrate.
