How does BREEAM compare to LEED?

BREEAM is the UK equivalent to LEED. It stands for the BRE Environmental Assessment Method, BRE being the company that invented it. It was invented prior to LEED, and the US LEED is based off of it. BREEAM is focused on providing resources for builders to better improve buildings, and has a set criteria for judging buildings. While LEED works similarly, it also pushes for competition between builders to be the most green, and certification for LEED is rather difficult.
