The bacteria involved are able to pass electrons to solid metal oxides, they simply take this ability and apply in to the anode of a fuel cell. As the bacteria eat and reproduce they pass on their electrons to the anodes and power the fuel cell. As long as the bacteria has enough food, the energy will keep flowing.
