When a herd of zebras are threatened by lions or hyenas, they form a circle with their young in the middle. They bite and kick to defend their young.

When zebras are threatened by predators, a group of adults from the heard will surround foals and separate them from the threat. As the group is removing the foals from danger, zebra stallions will fight off the predators. Zebras attack their predators with powerful kicks. If in range, a zebra will also bite its attacker.

Zebra herds are very watchful, and often spot predators in time to flee from danger.
