It isn’t possible to sex snapping turtles until they’ve reached about 5 years of age. At that point, you can tell their gender by the location of their vent, or where they go to the bathroom from. Hope this helps.
It is very difficult to tell the age of baby snapping turtles without having a specialist use a probe (do not attempt this yourself but rather ask a herpetologist). As the turtle gets older you will find a bulge on the tail of the males whereas the female will not have this. Also, the plastron or underside of the shell on the male may be slightly curved to better let it mate with the female. This does not develop until the turtle is at least five years old.
