Wind turbines in the ocean are typically on towers that must be driven deep into the ocean floor. The towers must be in water 50 feet deep or less and are typically visible from the shore. However there is a newer technology that allows windmills to float hundreds of miles out to sea. They would be attached to floating platforms that would be tethered in place by cables.
