You can measure solar energy by the watt or kw. A typical solar panel will have around 175 watts and about 13 to 15 of these 175 watt panels will total about 3kw (1000 watts equals 1 kw). Since your electric bill is measured in kw, you see solar energy refereed in kw more.
Solar energy uses the same units of measurement as regular electricity (watts).
