How do you measure sound?

    Sound is measured in decibels. Unlike other measurements (for example measurements of length), decibels are not measurements of quantity but rather measurements of ratio. Each decibel increase represents an increase in the ratio (by a log of ten) of the louder sound to the softer one. The decibel system begins at 0 decibels which is the softest sound that can be heard. A sound of ten decibels is ten times louder than this threshold sound.
