Cork is actually a natural compound on the outer-most layer of trees. However, the majority of cork products such coasters and wine-stoppers come from the cork the cork oak or Quercus suber. These trees primarily grown along the coastlines of the Mediterranean where there is plenty of moisture, low humidity, low rainfall and plenty of sunlight. Portugal, Algeria, Spain, Morocco, France, Italy and Tunisia are countries that produce most of the world’s cork.
