How do you get others involved in helping out the environment?

Some of my friends think there is no point in trying to save the planet.

Education is the first step in letting others know about current environmental issues. Many people are not concerned about environmental issues because they think that there is no problem, or there is nothing they can do to help.

Try posting news stories about environmental issues on Facebook or Twitter. People tend to pay attention to issues that affect them locally, shocking facts and humor.

Maybe your friends think that they cannot help to protect the planet because they are just one person. Try posting this gem from The Onion:

Try getting a group together to work locally to promote environmentally friendly activities. Student organizations can be a great way to reach out to peers and do some good for the environment. As far as your skeptical friends go, it can be hard to change people who are set in their ways. Lead by example, and correct any misinformation they may have.

Also, if you just need some help for a one-off project, bribery is more effective than we admit. Barbecues or pies baked with home-grown fruits are excellent tools to get people to help you pick up trash in an area, or come add some bodies to an environmental protest.
