A major solar plant is currently being developed that will store energy in salt using the Rankine cycle, which converts heat into energy. They will use sun-tracking mirrors called heliostats to heat the salt into a molten state. The molten salt will be pumped into a steam generator to be made into energy. This makes it possible for the plant to continue to supply power to the grid for hours after the sun has done down.
