The bacteria infecting the area can spread quite quickly, causing other parts to quickly decay as well. Unfortunately, amputation is necessary to stop the spread of gangrene. Typically, dead tissues can be removed as well, and blood flow can be stimulated to the area to prevent further decay. I’m not sure if this technique will save the affected area or simply delay spreading.
