How do we scientists get crude oil out of the water after accidents happen?

Oil, being a natural component of the earth will break down naturally, but there are other precautions that must be taken as well. Booms are used to contain the spill and keep it from spreading. Skimmers are used to skim extra large amounts of oil off the surface. Other agents and micro-organisms are added to break down the oil quicker than it would naturally. Then of course the animals effected must be caught cleaned, and re-released to clean areas.
