How do we remove carbon deposits from the atmosphere?

The simplest and most straightforward way to absorb that has already been released into the atmosphere is with trees. As trees grow, they remove carbon from the atmosphere and sequester it in their tissue. Unfortunately, today the world is cutting down and burning more trees than are being planted, especially in tropical countries with large areas of rainforest. Because removing tree cover actually releases carbon dioxide into the air, Indonesia and Brazil have become the world’s second and third largest emitters of greenhouse gases. One of the most effective things we can do to stabilize the climate is to end deforestation in the tropics and elsewhere, and begin replacing the trees that have been cut down over the years.
