BPA is a compound that has raised many concerns about effects to health. It is used as a hardening component in the manufacture of plastic products. It’s not so much a problem of removing BPA from plastics, as BPA is a main component of some plastics (mainly numbers 7 and 3). The key to resolving the BPA problem will be finding sustainable alternatives to plastic. Ones that don’t contain harmful chemicals such as plastics made from corn or other materials would solve the BPA issue and the problem of persistence of plastics in the environment.
As a caustionary to getting attached to biodegradable plastics, a sustainable alternative should be found. Corn seems an attractive alternative but it may not be a practical option.
