Great question. The most important criteria is probably the carbon intensity of its products relative to other companies. That is, is the company making the same product as other companies while using less overall energy? It would be unfair to call one company greener than another based on an absolute measure of emissions, because companies vary widely in size and some products are innately much more energetically expensive. Other things to look at would be how green their employees are, if they attempt to buy renewable energy, and if they conserve water and other resources.
