How do we measure atmospheric pressure?

Air pressure is measured by an instrument called a barometer. The pool of mecury at the bottom of the instrument is pressed down by the  atmospheric pressure resulting in rise or fall of the substance in the glass tube. Atmospheric pressure is measured metrically in a unit called hectopascals (hPa) and in the American Standard measurement of Millibars.
