How do we make helium?

Helium is produced as a natural byproduct of refining natural gas. The helium does burn so gas companies don’t want it but the helium market is not big enough to make it cost effective to for them to sell, so the government actually buys the helium for store underground. It is then shipped around the world as a liquid in refrigerated containers.
