Fresh water is only about 3 percent of the total water amount. Almost 70 percent of this fresh water is still trapped in snow, glaciers and polar ice caps. Of the remaining fresh water, the largest resource for drinking water comes from ground water. There is about 2,526,000 cubic miles of fresh ground water on Earth.
