Well, the best option is to use them up completely, then rinse out the containers, recycle them if appriate or put them in the trash, then switch to eco-friendly, non-toxic household supplies.
If you have old, unusable leftovers, check with your waste hauler, to see if your area has a local waste facility. Many areas offer regular pick-ups, drop-off locations or scheduled dates for hazardous waste disposal.
The hazardous waste collected is taken to secure landfills which are specifically designed to prevent seepage into groundwater. Of course they won’t last forever, so it’s best to go non-toxic.
